British tourist killed in Benidorm street brawl
Witnesses tell police of fight between holidaymakers at Spanish resort
A British tourist has died after a fight between holidaymakers in Benidorm.
Spanish Police launched an investigation after the 33 year-old Scottish man was found lying in the street a few hundred yards from the beach.
Witnesses told officers that moments earlier there had been a fight between British nationals on holiday in the resort, according to Spanish media.
The Policia Nacional in Alicante said they were called to Calle Gerona at around 3.15am.
Officers arrived to find two people trying to give first aid to the man.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police are awaiting a postmortem examination to determine the cause of death.
The incident took place in an area known to locals as the “Zona Guiri” or “Little England”.
Calle Gerona is lined with pubs, sports bars, hotels, tourist shops and strip clubs.
Last month two British tourists were arrested over a stabbing at a bar in nearby Mallorca Avenue. One of them was taken into custody on suspicion of attempted murder.
