Bonn boosts HIV checks

The German Health Minister, Horst Seehofer, announced new and tougher measures to prevent the use of HIV-infected blood in transfusions, and hit back at doctors who had criticised him for sowing 'panic', writes Steve Crawshaw from Bonn. He accused them of 'lagging behind'.

The Bavarian Health Ministry said yesterday that babies may have been treated with contaminated blood products from Haemoplas, one of the firms in the HIV blood scandal.
