Charlie Chaplin's grandson, James Thiérée, has stolen the show at France's most prestigious theatre awards with a mimed spectacle, recalling his grandfather's success in silent movies.

M. Thiérée, 32, scooped four awards for The Symphony of Hanneton, a show mixing circus, dance, pantomime and music - but no words.

The show, written and performed by M. Thiérée, won prizes for best newcomer, best director, best state-funded play and best costumes, which were created by his mother, Victoria Chaplin.

In order to express his thanks at the "Molières" award ceremony in Paris this week, Thiérée, whose stage presence has been compared with Chaplin's, treated the audience to a mimed sketch.
