Cologne shooting and stabbing: Two on the run after knife and gun attack
Stabbed man was shot at after trying to flee in his car
Two suspects are on the run after a knife and shooting attack in Cologne, local media has reported.
A 34-year-old man was seriously injured in the attack near Rudolfplatz in the early hours of Monday morning.
Several people told police shortly before 4am local time that three or four people seemed to be having problems with another man, with eyewitnesses telling the Koelner Express they saw men attacking each other with axes.
When the man who sustained the stab wound tried to flee in his car he was shot at by the other men, though they only hit the car.
Cologne Police said the injured man was taken to hospital with stab and head injuries.
The motive for the attack is currently unknown, although police said there was "no evidence of a terrorist background" or a "rampage".
Officers arriving at the scene found shattered glass and a substance that looked like blood.
Two possible perpetrators were later stopped by police.
Germany has been on edge after several attacks in the last month.
