The mayor of Caen has invited Germany's ambassador in Paris to the D-Day landings commemoration, Reuter reports from Bonn. Jean-Marie Girault said that Chancellor Helmut Kohl would also be welcome at the event on 6 June. A Chancellery spokesman said Bonn did not see this as a formal invitation. President Clinton has been invited to address the French parliament following the ceremonies.
