Egyptian policemen shot dead

Unidentified gunmen shot dead two policemen in the south Egyptian city of Assiut in the first such attack this year, Reuter reports from Cairo.

Security sources said the police suspected the Muslim fundamentalist movement el-Gamaat el-Islamiya which has been fighting the security forces since March 1992 in the Assiut area, 200 miles south of Cairo.
