Aleft-wing coalition trounced the government of President Carlos Menem in Buenos Aires in yesterday's elections for an assembly that will reform the Argentine constitution, Reuter reports from Buenos Aires.

Exit polls showed the outcome in the capital - which does not affect a nation-wide victory for Mr Menem's party - as giving the leftist Broad Front a lead of 10 percentage points over the Peronists or more. 'This is a 'no' to corruption, a 'no' to Menem's re-election,' said the Broad Front leader, Carlos Alvarez.
