CARACAS (Reuter) - Venezuela's national government, fresh from a second bloody coup attempt this year, lost three of the 11 states it had held in regional elections yesterday, according to first projections.
The ruling Accion Democratica won governors' seats in eight of 22 states, while the opposition Copei won 11 seats, the leftist MAS party garnered two seats and the more radical Causa R took the last seat. The ruling party previously held 11 of 20 states, and two new districts were added.
