WARSAW (AFP) - A forest fire that has been blazing for five days was burning over 25,000 acres yesterday and threatening to engulf a chemical plant at Kuznia Raciborska and fuel depots, firemen at Katowice said. Fifty fire units were preparing to protect the plant and depots while several thousand soldiers, policemen and forest rangers backed by planes and helicopters were fighting the fire. The blaze was being fanned by winds and unusually hot weather.
