German parliament scraps asylum law

THE parliament gave final approval yesterday to a law that closes the country's borders to most asylum-seekers, scrapping one of the world's most liberal refugee policies, AP reports. The vote by the Bundesrat, the upper house, clears the way for the legislation to become law on 1 July.
