This haunting final image taken by a man on board doomed Germanwings Flight 4U 9525 shows him reflected in a window of his hotel in Barcelona, just hours before the airliner crashed in the French Alps, killing all 150 passengers and crew.

Hussein Javadi, an Iranian sports writer, had travelled to the city for Sunday's Clásico between Barcelona and Real Madrid. He took the shot on his phone as he left the Hotel Hespiria in Barcelona for the airport on Tuesday morning.

Mr Javadi was flying to Germany to report on two friendly matches between Iran and Chile and Sweden when the Airbus A320 went down.

His former colleague and friend Maysam Bizær described him as "kind and caring" - and said he would be "truly missed".

He told the Evening Standard that Mr Javadi, who wrote for the Vatan Emrooz newspaper, had a "high passion for his work and football".

“I still can't believe he will no longer be with us,” said Mr Bizær, who works for Iranian TV network PressTV.

He also said that Mr Javadi, who died alongside his colleague, Milad Hojatoleslami from the Tasnim news agency, had been "very enthusiastic" about the trip.
