The Anglo-Spanish dispute over Gibraltar is 'absurd' and 'anachronistic', the Spanish Foreign Minister, Javier Solana, told the parliamentary committee on foreign affairs yesterday, AFP reports from Madrid.

He said that the issue of Gibraltar's sovereignty was an obstacle to European integration. Spain has demanded the return of Gibraltar, which was ceded to Britain by the 1713 Treaty of Utrecht.
