TUNIS - Gunmen shot dead the president of a top Algerian football club in northern Algeria. Ali Tahanouti, the president of Jeunesse Sportive de Bordj-Menaiel, a first division team, was shot by three gunmen in Bordj-Menaiel city, 40 miles south-east of Algiers. It was the first reported killing of a senior football official in Algeria since the eruption of civil strife in the country nearly three years ago. The Algerian football federation suspended all football matches this week in protest. Reuter
