Haiti's Prime Minister, Marc Bazin, announced his resignation, AP reports from Port-au-Prince. His year-old coalition government is expected to be replaced by a more right-wing regime.
Mr Bazin announced that he would step down in a statement, broadcast over Radio Metropole. He said he had been unable to install four new cabinet members because of 'threats and pressure against them' and because the Socialist Party withdrew from the governing coalition.
