Berlin (AFP) - Diehard Communist supporters of the former East German leader Erich Honecker, who is ill with cancer, said they were buying his air ticket to Chile, in the expectation that he will be released from trial next week.

'We have received enough donations to buy the ticket, and I intend to accompany Honecker personally to Santiago,' Klaus Feske, a supporter of Mr Honecker said. Mr Honecker is charged with the manslaughter of fugitives at the Berlin Wall.
