Hundreds mark Nazi era protest
BERLIN (Reuter) - About 400 people gathered in Berlin yesterday to mark the 50th anniversary of a unique Nazi-era protest which saved about 2,000 Jews from concentration camps.
The service, organised by Berlin's Jewish community, honoured hundreds of women who defied the Nazis in 1943 to march outside a deportation centre shouting 'Give us our husbands back]' After the protest by the women, who were not Jewish, the Nazis brought 25 men back from the Auschwitz camp and released up to 2,000 men who had been rounded up.
