LISBON - The EC needed to show it was working in line with the wishes of EC citizens at the Birmingham summit, the Foreign Secretary, Douglas Hurd, said yesterday, Reuter reports. Speaking after meeting the Portuguese Foreign Minister, Joao de Deus Pinheiro, Mr Hurd said Portugal had presented some ideas for boosting the EC's image. 'I have been exploring with Joao de Deus Pinheiro the lines of discussion at Birmingham. We have had a very good meeting and I have received some very interesting and constructive Portuguese ideas.'
