The Indian subcontinent sizzled yesterday under a heat- wave which has smothered dozens of towns and villages, claiming at least 140 lives and leaving hundreds in hospital, AFP reports from New Delhi. The Indian capital experienced its hottest day in 50 summers on Monday when the temperature peaked at 46C (114F).
