French woman who was serenaded by hundreds of Irish football fans describes experience as 'magical'

A French woman who was unexpectedly serenaded by a large group of Irish football fans has described the experience as “magical”.

Carla Roméra, a 19-year-old lifeguard living in Bordeaux, France, became the subject of a viral video when she was serenaded by a hundreds of Irish football fans in the country for Euro 2016.

The fans sang a rendition of Frankie Valli’s ‘Can’t Take My Eyes Off You’ clad in Irish football shirts and waving flags.

Ms Roméra can be seen laughing in the video, which has been shared over a million times, and kisses an Irishman on the cheek at the end.

Sharing the video on Facebook and Instagram, Ms Roméra said the experience was “magical”.

Speaking to the Daily Mail, Ms Roméra said “I am very proud of the Irish. It was a magical time filled with kindness and joy.

Carla told the SudOuest newspaper that she had just left lessons when a friend took her to the Connermara pub in Bordeaux.

“I never normally go there,” she said. “After a drink, we went out for some air and a few Irish lads started off having their pictures taken with me. It made me laugh. Then one of them started to sing and all the others turned round and followed him… It was done so nicely with good humour.”

She added “I did not know the Irish before. It was a good way of discovering them.”
