Austria's Chancellor, Franz Vranitzky, on the first visit to Israel by an Austrian head of government, said at a welcoming ceremony he hoped to show Israelis his country had cast off the shadow of Nazism, Reuter reports from Jerusalem.
Greeting Mr Vranitzky, the Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin said he hoped the four-day visit would open a new chapter in relations marred by four decades of tension and scars of the Nazi era.
