Italian rubbish crisis creates a stink
The residents of Naples again vented their frustration over the months-long problem of uncollected rubbish yesterday. Protesters blocked refuse workers from collecting piles of garbage that had been deliberately dumped in major streets overnight.
There are thought to be 2,400 tonnes of rubbish, which many believe is the culmination of years of mismanagement and corruption. The stench from the unsightly stacks of overflowing bin bags has forced some people to set alight to the waste.
