An Israeli immigration official said yesterday that the Russian nationalist Vladimir Zhirinovsky, whose rhetoric has been widely described as anti-Semitic and anti-Zionist, took a preliminary step 10 years ago to move to Israel, Reuter reports from Jerusalem. Mr Zhirinovsky was said to have filed papers through an intermediary in which he said his father was Jewish.
