ROME (Reuter) - Talks aimed at ending the five-year conflict in Nagorny Karabakh opened officially yesterday but negotiations were confined to behind-the-scenes haggling. Delegates from the former Soviet republics of Armenia and Azerbaijan, in dispute over the enclave, met for most of the day to try to iron out differences on pre-conditions for the talks.
