A highly decorated former US Army nurse who was forced out of the National Guard after acknowledging she was a lesbian was ordered reinstated by a federal judge yesterday, Reuter reports from Seattle. District Judge Thomas Zilly said in a 51- page ruling that former Colonel Margarethe Cammermeyer was entitled to reinstatement in the military, where she had served for 26 years. The judge said that the military's ban on homosexuals was based solely on prejudice and was a clear violation of the equal-protection clause of the US Constitution.
