Lions rampant
The number of lions in India has increased in recent years, but there are fewer tigers because of poaching and loss of habitat, Reuter reports from New Delhi.
In the forests of Gujarat state there were 284 lions compared with 239 in 1985, but only 3,750 tigers compared with 4,334 in 1989.
