A man has died from injuries reportedly sustained after attempting a backflip in a nightclub near Paris.

The 32-year-old tried to do the stunt but landed on his head in Le Gossip nightclub in Savigny-sur-Orge, a suburb in Essonne, The Local reports.

Emergency services arrived at the club around 3am and initially resuscitated the man, but he later died from his injuries in hospital.

As they arrived, they had some difficulties in moving through the crowd.

French daily newspaper Le Parisien reported a source saying: "Not all the customers understood. We were seen as spoilsports. People complained.

"Some tried to hit out at police officers, and there were insults."

They also said police resorted to using tear gas to evacuate the club.

A 30-year-old man was reportedly taken into police custody due to "violence and rebellion".
