The Russian National Library's collection of medieval Jewish manuscripts has been stolen, probably over a period of years, AP reports from St Petersburg.
Librarians say the 250- to 700-year-old documents have begun to turn up in New York and Jerusalem, with an asking price of millions of dollars. At least 38 texts are missing, including Torah scrolls, Talmudic commentaries, marriage contracts and books of psalms and prayers dating from the 13th century.
