Argentina has told Britain it will pay for specialists from a third country to find and destroy some 30,000 mines buried in the Falkland Islands since the 1982 war, a senior diplomatic source said yesterday, Reuter reports from Buenos Aires.
'Argentina wants to solve this problem,' the source said. 'Our concern has been transmitted to the British and they have to consult.' If Britain accepts the Argentine offer, the government of President Carlos Menem will have to press the military to reveal where the mines are buried.
