Russia's top investigative body said that it would seek additional punishment for an American couple convicted in the US of killing a seven-year-old Russian boy whom they had adopted.

A US court this week sentenced Michael and Nanette Craver to 19 months in jail for the manslaughter of their son Nathaniel. The couple have already served this sentence while waiting for their trial.

Russia's federal Investigative Committee will seek an international arrest warrant for the Cravers, and is planning to argue that the killing was premeditated. Prosecutors said that the boy died from repeated blows to the head, but the Cravers argued that he had deliberately run into a stove.
