The jailed former Prime Minister, Yulia Tymoshenko, will stand trial on tax-evasion charges in a new case, state prosecutors said yesterday.
Ms Tymoshenko, the country's top opposition leader, is serving a seven-year prison term on charges of abuse of office following a trial that was condemned in the West as politically motivated.
A spokesman for the prosecutor-general said yesterday that an investigation was complete and the new trial would start within weeks.
