Devastating moment Notre Dame cathedral spire topples over into bed of flames during huge fire

The spire at the top of the Notre Dame cathedral in Paris has toppled amid a blaze that can be seen from around the city.

The moment was caught in a dramatic video that shows the iconic church in the centre of the French capital engulfed in flames.

Soon after the blaze began, authorities began clearing the area around the church of pedestrians, while residents of the city posted videos and images showing a massive cloud of smoking coming from the historic landmark.

No deaths were immediately reported.

The blaze prompted French President Emmanuel Macron to cancel a planned address to the nation.

Meanwhile, Donald Trump weighed in with some advice for the firefighters on Twitter, and urged them to act quickly.

The smoke coming from the church was said to be reaching out for miles.
