Orders suspended

BONN (AFP) - The German Defence Minister, Volker Ruhe, said yesterday he was suspending all large weapons orders in order to save 860 million marks ( pounds 372m) this year. Mr Ruhe added that further expenditure for arms programmes and infrastructure by the armed forces would be given only through his special authorisation, and that the Lapas reconnaissance aircraft project was being cancelled.
