The United Nations said yesterday record low ozone levels had been registered over a large swathe of the northern hemisphere but denied reports of a hole in the ozone layer over Europe, Reuter reports from Geneva.

The World Meteorological Organisation said newspapers in several countries had reported a hole across central and northern Europe, similar to one over the Antarctic.
