President Jorge Serrano was yesterday meeting a group of army commanders on Guatemala's constitutional crisis, officials said, amid persistent rumors that the President might step down, AFP reports from Guatemala City. The meeting followed a second round of talks between the President and a diplomatic team led by the Organisation of American States Secretary- General. President Serrano last Tuesday suspended the constitution in part and disbanded the Supreme Court. Prominent opposition leaders marched on his residence yesterday, demanding his resignation. Ramiro de Leon Carpio, the government's top human rights official who resigned last Tuesday, said the President would be forced from power within hours.
