The Russian Prime Minister, Viktor Chernomyrdin, yesterday cancelled a trip to Washington after US officials stepped up pressure on Russia to stop selling missile technology to the Third World, AP reports from Moscow.
The abrupt cancellation - a diplomatic slight unheard of in recent US-Russian relations - comes amid US threats to impose economic penalties on Russian companies that sell such technology.
Mr Chernomyrdin's trip was to have begun tomorrow.
