BRUSSELS (Reuter) - The European Commission planned to ban Italian exports of livestock and meat after an outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease. The ban, until 31 March, would apply to all meat, including salami, processed since 1 February. The outbreak is believed to be linked to cattle imports from Croatia. Some 22 farms are affected and nearly 4,000 cattle, pigs, sheep and goats have been slaughtered.
