VICHNEVA (AFP) - More than 60 years after he left, Shimon Peres, the Israeli Foreign Minister, returned to his birthplace in Belarus to drink from the well at his family's former house. Two of Israel's founders, Haim Weisman and David Ben Gurion, were born in Belarus, as was the poet Haim Nakhman Bialik. 'There is something in the soul,' Mr Peres explained.
