BRATISLAVA (AFP) - Michal Kovac, 62, of Slovakia's ruling Democratic Slovakia Movement (HZDS), will stand unopposed in the second round of parliamentary voting next Monday to elect the first president of the new Slovak republic. His main rival, Juraj Svec, the united opposition candidate, withdrew on Monday after losing the support of the powerful Democratic Left party.
