Solidarity threatens coalition
GDANSK (Reuter) - The Solidarity trade union jeopardised the Polish government's survival by telling its 26 MPs to vote against the coalition in a crucial budget vote. This could swing today's vote on the 1993 draft budget against the minority coalition government, which may resign if it loses.
President Lech Walesa has threatened to dissolve parliament if the budget is not passed and the government's defeat could jeopardise a vital credit deal with the International Monetary Fund.
'This is very bad,' said Wojciech Arkuszewski, head of a parliamentary budget commission, as he left the meeting.
