Spectacular footage from a dashcam in Austria has captured the massive meteorite that was spotted through across Europe over the weekend.

The clip that was filmed by a motorist in Tyrol, Austria shows the bright fireball streaking across the sky as it fell towards the Earth’s surface on Sunday evening.

The meteor could also be seen from Scotland, with one amateur photographer capturing a breathtaking image of the meteor travelling across the night sky over Loch Ness.

The image taken by Highlands tour guide John Alastair Macdonald shows the impressive meteor lighting up the starry sky above Scotland’s famous Loch.

Macdonald described the picture as “pure luck”.

The meteor also played havoc with some of Scotland’s coastguard services, with Stornoway Coastguard saying they received a number of flare reports from local residents.
