Prosecutors have dropped an investigation into allegations of gang rape in a Washington hotel involving the former International Monetary Fund chief Dominique Strauss-Kahn after the alleged victim retracted her evidence.

But he remains under investigation over an alleged role in a prostitution ring, which he denies.
