Teenage beauty queen livestreams her own death in drink-drive accident on Instagram
Sofia Magerko and her friend Dasha Medvedeva were drinking from wine bottles and talking about how much they loved life moments before the crash
A Ukrainian beauty queen livestreamed the crash that killed her and her friend while the pair of them were drinking alcohol in the car.
Sofia Magerko, who won a beauty contest in her home city of Izyum, was vlogging on a live Instagram feed while her friend Dasha Medvedeva was driving at high speeds before they smashed head-on into a lamp-post.
The pair were both heavily intoxicated and drinking from wine bottles in the video.
The women were seen saying “Hi boys” to the camera and laughing and joking about how much they “enjoyed life” seconds before the crash in Izyum.
The screen goes black at the moment of impact but the sound of the crash can still be clearly heard, the Daily Mail reported.
Bystanders are heard shouting “there is a dead body there... another one fell out of the car”.
Ms Magerko, 16, was killed almost instantly and Ms Medvedeva, 24, died on the way to hospital.
Their deaths are the latest controversy for live streaming software hosted by Instagram's parent company Facebook and other similar platforms.
There have been numerous incidents of people streaming themselves murdering ex-partners or killing themselves on the platform which has led Facebook to announce it would hire 3,000 more staff to take down videos when they appear.
Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg said: “If we’re going to build a safe community, we need to respond quickly.
"We’re working to make these videos easier to report so we can take the right action sooner — whether that’s responding quickly when someone needs help or taking a post down.”
