BELGRADE - The commander of United Nations forces in former Yugoslavia, General Satish Nambiar, said yesterday he has asked the Security Council to give peace-keepers wider powers to intervene, writes Marcus Tanner. Gen Nambiar told reporters in Belgrade that there was no question of peace-keepers pulling out of Croatia, where low-level fighting between Croats and Serbs inside the UN-protected zone entered the eleventh day.
Two thousand Muslims were expelled from Serbian-held regions in south-east Bosnia yesterday in what UN officials said was a classic case of 'ethnic cleansing'.
