For the first time since Finland applied for EU membership in 1992, more Finns oppose joining than are in favour, AFP reports from Helsinki. An opinion poll conducted by the daily Helsingin Sanomat showed that 41 per cent of Finns would vote against full EC membership for Finland, while 36 per cent would vote in favour. The rest were undecided.
