Forty Japanese children had their eardrums damaged and 26 received sprained or broken limbs from violence by teachers last year, according to a government survey, Reuter reports from Tokyo.
The Education Ministry survey said authorities disciplined 295 teachers for violence against pupils in the year to the end of March 1993, an increase of 37 on the previous year.
