World's oldest man dies in Italy aged 112

The world's oldest man, 112-year-old Antonio Todde, who swore the secret of his longevity was a daily glass of red wine, has died in Italy.

"He was lucid to the very end," a relative, Mariolina Todde, said. "He was always joking that he was going to live to 130." Mr Todde, a shepherd, was born in a Sardinian mountain village and lived in the same house all his life. He left two daughters, aged 78 and 81, and a sister, 98.

Coincidentally, Italy's oldest woman, Maria Grazia Broccolo, 110, died within hours of Mr Todde. She had gone to school two years ago to take her exams.
