Bulgaria's ousted dictator Todor Zhivkov was charged yesterday with diverting state funds to left-wing governments and Communist parties abroad, Reuter reports from Sofia.
The funds were allegedly given to Yemen, Nicaragua, left-wing parties in Bangladesh, Chile and Honduras and the Palestine Liberation Organisation in the form of hard currency donations, arms and technical assistance. Zhivkov, 81, is serving seven years' house arrest for embezzling state funds.
