A German court, in a ground-breaking judgment, convicted a former East German border guard, Rolf-Dieter Heinrich, 49, of murder yesterday, sentencing him to 10 years' jail for killing a man trying to escape over the Berlin Wall in 1965, Reuter reports from Berlin. It was the first time a border guard has been convicted of murder.
