Fatal attack in township

Thirty to 40 attackers armed with fire-bombs staged a pre-dawn raid on a township squatter camp, killing five people, including three children, AP reports from Johannesburg.

Residents fought back, killing one of the attackers and two others were arrested, police said. Another eight people died in overnight fighting in other townships, and the death-toll from an attack on a white church in Cape Town rose to 12.
