FIS stays alone

Paris - Algeria's main armed Islamist underground group, FIS, said from its leadership in exile that there was no truth to a report that it was to merge with two other Islamic groups. A statement from an FIS leader this month, also from outside Algeria, said the group's armed forces would merge with those of the Armed Islamic Group and the Movement of the Islamic State. Reuter
